Here is another one!

In A Christmas Carol Dickens writes about Christmas. Was Dickens a believer? If he was, why did he never write about Jesus? All he did was talk about being kind and good. Both thoes things are good, but why doesn't he talk about God? If you think that he does talk about Jesus, please tell me.

Well, some of the things in his book represent Christian values and the three spirits could represent the trinity...

Maybe it just wasn't his style to talk directly about God

i think dicken was (to a certain extent) somewhat of a beliver. i think he desgiused jesus or other godly figures as main characters. (eg GtF=GOCP, jesus=GOCP, holy ghost=GOCYTC.

Bethy that is a great question! Maybe he thinks he is a Christian but he isn't really sure. I think he has the idea that being good is being a good Christian. I have no idea. Sorry at least I tried. Come to my blog.

Good question. But I don't see how you think that he doesn't talk about God. Of course he doesn't state it directly, but the way he writes and what he writes about in influenced by a Christian background. The three spirits could be representatives of the trinity and the whole evil to good transformation suggests that he has a Christian influence. Again, I'm not trying to tell you that your wrong, just my opinion

Ok, Connor! You are right! Let me restate my question:
Why does Dickens act like the meaning of Christmas is helping others when the true meaning of Christmas is all about Jesus? Is that better, Connor?

Usually, more unbelievers will read books if they don't directly mention Jesus. if more unbelievers read it,more might come to Christ.

Wouldn't it be cooler if his name was Darrels Chickens??? I think it would!
I agree with Laura, more nonbelievers would have a chance of reading it and thinking about it. (I had to say something smart sounding in this comment...)

I don't really know cause he does memchon a few christian values, for instence the spirits ect., but still he dosen't talk about God directly.

He doesn't talk directly about Christianity but I believe he was a Christian. By not directly mentioning Jesus, he was able to spread his views to a larger audience. His love and his reflection of Christly values could very well suggest his beliefs.

I think he was a very devote follerwer of the Truth. His book has plenty of examples if you take the time to notice it.

I can see the allusions to Christianity all over his book, and i don't think he stated it directly because the public doesn't like reading books that directly state things about it. It is really sad, but it is fact that people want to read books that appeal to the senses. i don't know, but i really think he was a Christian.

THe three books that we have read or are reading use reflections from the bible but the writers all don't seem to be Christians. (my opinion)

That's not exactly true. From our discussions here we've pretty much decided that Dickens was christian, and Mrs.Koning told us that Hemingway was raised as a Catholic.I don't know about Steinbeck, but he was probably raised in a Christian home.
