Why?

This is my new question:
The author of The Old Man and the Sea has the theme of not giving up in lots of his books. Why does he have this theme, and tell us to never give up if he, himself gave up on life?
This has been really bothering me! If you guys have any ideas please write them!
He might have believed it for awhile and then changed his mind or maybe he never believed it! What do you think?

When Hemingway commited suicide, do you really think that he believed he was giving up?

Well, maybe he was too stupid, or he had so much depression...

I mean, a lot of depression, and then suicide!!!

I think that he was stupid...

And Laura I really think he was giving up, who would suicide if he didn't want to give up???

I really think that commiting suicide was giving up! But you are right, Laura! He may have been so deep in depression that he didn't think he was giving up!

Yah, he might have thought he was helping the world by getting rid of himself or something! Or maybe he was only thinking of himself again and what he wanted, not what it would look like.

I don't know, but that bugs me to!
PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH!!!!! Yeah, maybe he didn't realize he was giving up, but I think he was so depressed that he didn't care and didn't feel noble at all!

he just got too depressed and thought that the only way out was suicide. Also, you guys should remeber that no one is perfect and seeing as that is so it dosen't matter what he did, it's his conviction about it.

it probably because he might have understood christiananty and god doesn't want us to give up in anything

You might be right, Bob! The way that he writes is kindda depressing so maybe he just had a really said life and didn't care about what he said before!

Hemingway likes to express perseverence in his characters.

People without the Truth realise that life will be worse in Hell cause they don't know. Without the Truth, no opinion or beleif of man will be stood behind for long, for they will all eventually fall away. I copyright that.

Men often are more dramatic in the pits of despair and depression.

I agree with Micah or whoever said that he just got so deep into depression that there was so way out...or so he thought. At that point, i think he felt so down in the pits, that he just didn't care about the messages he had been portraying in his books. He probly wasn't even thinking about his books when he did commit cuicide. he was thinking all about himself.
